STRUCTURE ON A HILL AS PER VASTU SHASTRA

It is a common practice to build structures on hills these days due to the scarcity of available land space and increasing population. However, while building structures on hills I suggest to take special attention and care with respect to Vastu.

• A residential or office complex building can be easily constructed on a hill of it happens to be in the west or south direction of the city
• It is absolutely anti-Vastu to build a house or office premises in the North-east, North or east direction of the city as this would hamper the progress of the individual and make his growth stagnant.
• While building a structure on a hill, the hill with slopes on the eastern or northern side having approaching roads from both ends should be chosen. The idea is never to have a slope on the south or west directions
• A hill with a water body in the east or north direction like a river, canal, sea or running drain, is considered to be very auspicious. On the contrary, if they happen to lie on the west or south, they become extremely inauspicious.
• If a structure is built on a hill with slopes on all four sides, there is no problem at all but the entrance roads should be from the East or North
• The land or plot has to be leveled off before commencing construction on a hill. 
• A compound wall, according to Vastu principles, should be made on all four sides before beginning the construction work on the top of a hill. The east and North walls however, should be shorter in height as compared to the west or the south and must be made of bricks. 
• Houses in hilly areas cannot have store well or boring water, hence underground water tanks are the alternative for them. These should be placed in the north-east direction of the plot. In case one wants to install big water head tanks, they should be in the west direction.
• The wall compound gate of the structure built on a hill should be in the North-east, north or east direction. 
• Vacant space should be left in the east and north of the structure on the hills.
• The northeast corner of the hilly plot should be left completely vacant. There should be no construction in this corner or else I would lead to various unforeseen problems for the inmates. 
• Pits, septic tanks or water wells should be avoided completely in the south-east, south, west or southwest
• In case the hilly plot is not leveled, construction should be done on the upward slope towards the south or west direction
• The roof should be sloped towards the east or north and never to the west or south
• Multilevel construction on a hill is possible only if the hill has an upward slope towards the south or west
• There should be only one compound gate in the east of the hilly plot. The other gate should be towards the north
• Temples, religious places, gardens and public water works constructed on a hilly plot prove to be highly beneficial
