IMPORTANCE OF DIRECTIONS IN VAASTU

Directions play a pivotal role in determining the Vaastu of a place. Just as a car has to synchronize and balance completely with its four wheels in order to have a smooth ride so does the science of Vaastu need to strike the correct cord with the four major directions viz; north, south, east and west. While constructing a house, it should be strictly kept in mind to study the directions properly in accordance with the Vaastu of that place.
Dr. Puneet Chawla
There are ten directions in total. Apart from the four major directions, there are six more directions which affect and influence the Vaastu of a property or place. They are as follows:
  •   North-east (Ishan) Between the North and the East
  •   South-east (Agneya) Between the South and the East
  •   South-west (Nirutya) Between the South and West
  •  North-west (Vayaya) Between the North and the west
  •   Space (Udharva)
  •  Centre

The present era has made it convenient to measure and determine the directions quite conveniently by inventing the magnetic compass, unlike olden days when people used to observe the shadow of the sun to check the directions of a place. However, a compass can verify only eight directions out of ten. It covers a total of 360 degrees with its radius out of which 45 degrees have been allotted to each of the directions. It is highly essential to check the level of degree within each direction while ascertaining the Vaastu of a structure or property.
NORTH
The North direction is considered as one of the most favorable directions in Vaastu, the reason being that it is owned by Lord Kuber, who showers Wealth and Prospertiy. Hence, this direction is also referred to as the wealth and career direction.
SOUTH
There are great fallacies in the minds of people regarding this direction. The South has always been considered as a problem

atic direction in terms of Vaastu but actually it is not true. Ruled by the planet Mangal (Mars), the south is the storehouse for the energies that spring from the north and hence there should be no openings in this area. Owned by Lord Yama, the God of death, this direction determines legal affairs, financial prospects and even health factors for the occupants of the related structure.
EAST
The East is owned by Lord Indra, who is the GOD of happiness, prosperity, Power and prestige. The planet Surya (Sun) rules this direction that alone is responsible for supporting life and vegetation on Earth. So it is  the Direction of Growth. Sun has always been regarded as the purifier, cleanser and energizer of the entire universe and therefore the East symbolizes prosperity and fulfillment in one’s life.
WEST
The genitals, lower abdomen and the reproductive organs of the Vaastu Purush are believed to be located in the west direction. Lord Varun, the God of water, rain and fame is its occupant and the ruling planet is Shani (Saturn) This direction brings stability in life. The unique quality of the west is that it comes in form at night, after sunset.
