Various aspects of Indian Culture

Indian culture is believed to be one of the richest and most extensive among all other cultures in the world. This stands so because although every culture is valuable to that particular population largely for emotional and territorial reasons, but the significance of Indian culture is that it is a scientific process towards human liberation and well being. No other culture has looked at a human being with as much depth and understanding as this culture has. No other culture has looked at it as a science and created methods to evolve a person into his ultimate nature.

Tot it in the words of Dr. Puneet Chawla, a well renowned Vastu consultant with an extensive knowledge of our Puranas and Upanishads, Indian culture claims certain things to be done which in turn would grant certain sure shot benefits to the individual in his lifetime. To put it very bluntly, Indian culture is backed by scientific explanations and technologies as to how to manufacture an enlightened being. In other words,Indian culture is incredibly complex and resembles a chaos of mind-boggling proportions. But beneath this seeming chaos is a scientific foundation that is thousands of years old.

To prove his point further, Dr. Chawla mixes wit and wisdom to present the historical context and current relevance of various aspects of Indian culture.

The caste system- although the caste system as per Indian culture seems increasingly irrelevant and unfair as we should not be discriminating people on the basis of religion, profession or birth, even then Dr. Chawla believes that the caste system was introduced to solve certain issues which could not have resolved otherwise. It was also brought forth to not let the youth of today get drifted away towards American and European cultures, leaving behind our rich Indian heritage.

Sleeping right-right from birth, we have been told to follow certain postures and positions while sleeping, like never to place the head in the north while lying down in bed. This too has a significant scientific relevance, Dr. Chawla says that sleeping with the head on the North direction would mean lying down in the path of the magnetic rays and vibrations coming in from the North Pole which would lead to a disturbed sleep and body aches.

Namaskar-Joining both hands to greet the elders or the almighty has always been preached in Indian culture.  The greeting of namaskar or namaste is a ubiquitous part of Indian culture which, as explained by Dr. Chawla, is a gesture of reverence and gratitude shown towards one who is considered to be worthy of respect. Hence there lies a science and significance behind the gesture of joining our palms together as well.

Astrology-the positioning of the stars and planets too play a pivotal role in determining happiness and content in one’s life. Dr. Chawla looks at Vedic astrology and whether the stars and planets can influence our lives or not. However, if we believe and follow Indian culture and heritage, astrology can really alter the lives of people to a great extent.
