Vastu book - Omens, Good & Bad

In India, all of us are familiar with the word shakun, (often called shagun). An important part of our daily life,it symbolically represents positive or negative results of the work that we are about to perform. Younger generations do not believe in omens (shakuns and apshakuns), and we can look upon this disbelief as ignorance. If we know the reasons behind this, not only will the new generation follow shakuns and apshakuns to lead a better life, but subsequent generations too will treat omens with respect. Shakuns and apshakuns are not superstitions but super science.

Shakuns are directly related to nature. It can also be called a sort of sixth sense, which is widely discussed nowadays.
Omen Good And Bad
The word shakun comes from “Shakunta Bird”. It is believed that this bird is able to sense a particular natural happening some time before it actually occurs. Modern science also recognizes the fact that birds and animals intuitively know about a natural occurrence in advance through their extraordinary capabilities. Psychology says that whatever happens in nature is predetermined. The practical aspect of shakun was proved at the time of the tsunami, when thousands of birds and animals sensed that something was awry, and almost 90 per cent of birds and animals fled to safety minutes before the tsunami struck. Tribal folk in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, who have not seen the light of civilization, too were able to save themselves from this catastrophe as they sensed impending danger in advance.

If we keep our eyes and ears open, we’d notice similar things around us, like a line of ants carrying food to their homes, which indicates rainfall.

In Hinduism, certain omens are regarded as good or auspicious, in that they are believed to indicate fulfilment of wishes, generate welfare, prosperity, victory, etc. Given below is a list of some popular good omens:
