A yantra refers to a symbolic element which every religion or culture has managed to extract, having power in them to rectify the wrongs but only to a certain extent in terms of negative energies floating within an environment.
In Sanskrit language, yantra has been derived from the root ‘yam’ meaning to hold the very essence of an object. As for the syllable, ‘tra’, it comes from the word ‘trana’ meaning liberation from bondage. Hence, yantra refers to and literally means a symbol pertaining to religion which helps us to see and feel beyond the bondage.
As per Hindu religion, abstract and natural forms are more abundantly used to portray the deity’s identity like a Shivalingam is recognized and identified in the form of a smooth rock while a round and flatter stone form is referred to Lord Shaligram. In earlier times, the symbol to represent Lord Vishnu comprised of a geometrical shape with some numerical digits and letters inscribed on it.
