TREES AROUND THE BUILDING AS PER VASTU SHASTRA

Vastu, as I have always stressed and as we all know, is an ancient science which deals in the study of architecture. According to the principles of Vastu, one should plant trees within his campus or structure around the building. However, the choice of trees and direction and their placement need to comply with Vastu rules so as to make them fruit-giving for the inmates in every sense.

Some simple tips recommended by me for Vastu in this context are:
  • Planting of big trees around the building or inside its boundary walls should be avoided as the roots of big trees may damage the base of the wall compound of the building. Moreover, the invisible power of the sunlight gets absorbed by their roots due to which the good effect of these powerful rays are not obtained by the structure.
  • Tress planted within the campus should not be tall or with thick leaves and they should not be placed in the east or north direction as they would block the sun’s rays from coming inside. These trees can be planted in the west and south directions.
  • Useful trees with a height of 3 to 5 feet can be planted in the east and north directions. However, trees of any kind, be it small, big, useful or otherwise, should not be there in the north east corner of the plot as this may prove to be harmful.
  • There should not be any thorny plants like cactus within the four walls of the plot even for decoration purposes as these plants are endowed with demonic and evil properties. However, if, for any reason it is compulsory to plant the cactus plants then two basil leaves should be planted along with every cactus planted so as to reduce its evil effect. No plant should be brought from a temple or the bank of a river. Only samplings brought from a nursery should be planted within the premises.
  • Creepers too should never be raised on the eastern or northern compound walls of the building; these should be planted only in the garden. However, a money plant can be planted but not outside the house with the support of a tree. Money plant should be grown only around a temple with a Banyan tree placed in the east. Papal tree should be planted in the west though. But these should not be planted around the residence or office premises.
  • There should not be trees, big or small, in front of the main entrance of the building in any direction as this can create various obstacles for the owners of the house.
  • Banana, Papaya, Mango, Pineapple, Lemon, Nilgiri, Ashoka ox Jamun trees etc. should not be planted in the east or the north direction of the building as this brings about scarcity of funds and children. There is no harm in having Ashoka, Almond, Pinapple, Nilgiri, Coconut, Neem, Lemon trees etc. in the South or in the West direction.
  • No big tree should be there in close proximity of the compound wall or in the middle square of the old building as this puts load in the place of Bramha. Therefore there should be no tree at the Bramhasthan.
